The semi automatic SVT
40 rifle, caliber 7,62 is a further development of the SVT 37 wich
was made already before the outbreak of World War Two in the Soviet
Union. There is also an AVT 40, with full auto fire and a burst fire
function. It was never manufactured in larger numbers since
production costs were to expensive.
There is also a carbine
version of the SVT 40 with a shorter barrel and lesser weight than
the original.
This rifle was used in both
the Indochina and Vietnam wars but in limited numbers. |
